We’re experiencing significant organic growth leading to high demands on our development and operation teams. So we’re looking to add an experienced Progress Openedge software developer to work as part of our in-house development & support team on our ProERP system reporting to our Development Manager.

The software is designed, developed, and supported in-house using Progress OpenEdge and uses a character user interface (CHUI) and used by some very large clients within the pharmaceuticals and healthcare industry. ProERP integrates with many other systems and therefore knowledge of integration methods and processes and different protocols will be very advantageous.

In this role you would need to have a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills and have the ability to work alone as well as part of a team. You should be enthusiastic about our products ensuring that all software we develop and release to our customers is of the highest quality and to be passionate in everything that you do for the business and our products.

Your main objective will be to design and develop both changes to existing functionality and design and develop new functionality for ProERP. Your role will also include providing customer support where you will be required to engage with customers and take responsibility for support issues raised through to resolution, working with other team members whenever required to provide necessary solutions.

Full training on our software technology will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Customer requirements gathering for new features or changes to existing functionality
• Design efficient and effective solutions based on customer requirements with the ability to carry out thorough impact analysis on any proposed changes
• Create development and technical specifications that adhere to company standards
• Develop, unit test and deploy code changes when required to multiple customers
• Ensure all coding meets standards in terms of accuracy and efficiency
• Collaborate with QA on all development changes carried out and assist in resolving any issues identified during the QA process
• Review assigned support tickets and take ownership until resolution is found
• Liaise with both the development and operations teams to gain product knowledge and issue assistance

 
KEY SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

• Must have at least 5 years Progress OpenEdge experience
• Strong expertise in Progress OpenEdge ABL 4GL tools and environment
• Experience and good understanding of Progress databases (including administration)
• Experience of systems integration (CSV, XML, EDI, API)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work to tight timescales
• A customer focused individual who can deal professionally and efficiently
• Be able to work as part of a team, but have the initiative to work alone
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Desire to learn best practices and new technologies
• Understanding of Linux operating systems

Experience in the following areas would also be advantagous:

• ERP/Supply Chain/Warehousing Software Solutions
• Open Accounts
• Linux scripting
• Web development (Angular, Kendo UI, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, REST API)
• Progress AppServer (PASOE and Classic)
• Progress WebSpeed/WebTools
• Agile development processes including scrum (working knowledge)

Work dynamic: We‘ve offices in Dublin and Manchester and candidates may work in a hybrid type role where they will predominantly work from home but will need to travel to offices as required (approximately once or twice monthly). You may also be required to work at customer sites located across the UK and Ireland.

As a member of the Development Operations Team you will report to the Development Operations Director. The role will be primarily involved in Project Delivery, ranging from 1 or 2 day projects to full system implementations and includes to following:

• Gathering technical requirements and documenting specifications for implementation of projects
• Project management of small to medium size projects, identifying change control requests and project risks
• System development, configuration, testing, training and documentation which are required in the delivery of a project.
• On-site delivery of project when required
• Identify and mark new functionality for checking into core software releases
• Document standard operating procedures for new project functionality to assist in thebprocess of handover to customer sites and to the Customer Support team.
• Work with customer services to ensure successful handover of project to Customer Support team:
  – Assist the Customer Support team with second level support queries
  – Develop and check in new code modifications into customer repositories adhering to defined processes
  – Ad-hoc technical requests

 
CORE SKILLS

• Minimum 3 years Progress OpenEdge Development
• Project delivery experience
• Knowledge of Warehouse & Logistics processes

Experience in the following areas would also be advantageous:

• Crystal reporting
• Web service integrations
• QlikView & Qlik Sense
• Angular
